Westville: Finding a New Center

The Institute works with the town of Westville to revitalize the downtown area and improve connectivity.

Westville, OK | Spring 2023

IQC perennially invites communities across Oklahoma to collaborate on urban planning and design projects, employing the knowledge and skills of students and faculty at the Gibbs College of Architecture to deliver recommendations which can predicate transformative change in these communities. In spring of 2022, the town of Westville, Oklahoma, approached IQC with a proposal to revitalize a vacant Downtown lot into a new park, and to develop design guidelines for enhanced streetscapes within a broader community connectivity plan.

With the community’s voice in mind, this report aims to provide guidance for reimagining a vacant Downtown lot as a new Town Square, and to assist in visioning lively, beautiful, and safe streetscapes within a connected Westville. All of these design proposals are supported with knowledge about coalition building and sustaining large community efforts provided by experienced IQC team members.
